Memorial Day Meltdown

Memorial Day is a fabulous day to spend outside with friends and family! But it sure has been hot lately. Here is an adorbale idea to help cool thigs off a bit. It's kid friendly and they will have a blast helping make them, not to mention eating them :)

Supplies needed:
Popsicle freezer
Lemonade
Red and Blue Food Coloring
Thinly sliced apple
Small Star Cookie Cutter (about 1 inch)

Mix up a batch of lemonade- Fresh squeezed, Country Time, Koolaid... the choice is yours! Divide the lemonade into 3 seperate cups and add red drops to one cup and blue drops to the other. Now you have your red, white (it freezes white), and blue. Take your thin apple slice and use the star cookie cutter to cut out some small stars.

Now it's time to just get creative! Layer your red, white, and blue lemonade in your popsicle maker to make a patriotic impression. Here is how the little apple stars can be used. Now just freeze and enjoy!

Are your vitamins real or fake???

So..... I am guessing you take a multivitamin a day right? And you probably get them from Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, etc....... Did you know that you are probably wasting your money and time just like all the other millions of Americans who consume your everyday vitamin!! Here is how I know....

This is an article that I just read from NaturalNews.com! If you are not a subscriber to their articles, I highly suggest that you become one. They are full of very useful and knowledgeable information. This particular article that I want to share with you today breaks down the Vitamin world. Are you ready.....

Dear NaturalNews readers,
If you're taking cheap, common multivitamins, you're eating rocks!

It's one of the biggest cover-ups in the history of nutrition: Those "conventional" multivitamins sold at grocery stores, pharmacies and big-box stores are filled with synthetic chemicals that are fraudulently called "vitamins." Ascorbic acid, pyridoxine (B6), niacin (B3), magnesium oxide and dozens more... these are all synthetic, isolated or inorganic forms of vitamins (i.e. rocks) and minerals that in some cases may actually cause more harm than good to your body.

It's all a cruel con... the selling of synthetic, isolated chemicals and ground-up rocks as "food." When you take a typical multivitamin made with calcium carbonate, iron sulfate and magnesium oxide, you are eating rocks, not minerals. And when you take a multivitamin made with "standardized" isolated vitamins, you are eating chemicals, not real nutrition.

There is a better way to get real nutrition from multivitamins. It's called "food-based" nutrition, and it means that all the vitamins and minerals in the supplement come from genuine food-based sources.

Clearly, human beings were designed to eat foods, not rocks. Nutrients are supposed to come from living things, not dead, inanimate objects. This should be common sense, but the entire conventional vitamin industry -- which is largely owned by Big Pharma, by the way -- has convinced people they should be eating chemicals and rocks.

There is a better solution to all this. It's called "MegaFood."

MegaFood is a brand of nutritional supplements that are made almost entirely from actual food. Every nutrient in the bottle is derived entirely from living systems, either microbial flora or plants. They have a full line of supplements for specific health concerns, including thyroid, blood builders, bone builders, and multivitamins for men and women over 40. Natural News now proudly carried MegaFood products in our online store, and this is what I'm taking and recommending to everyone I know.

It's crucial to understand the difference between MegaFood and traditional multivitamins. MegaFood nutrients are full-spectrum nutrients. Vitamin C, for example, is actually much more than the isolated chemical known as ascorbic acid. In nature, vitamin C exists as a full symphony of related compounds. This is what the body needs for nutrition, and that's what MegaFood delivers.

Nearly all the plants used in MegaFood formulas are certified organic, and their entire product line is tested to be completely free of pesticides and herbicides. In fact, I grilled MegaFood on whether they had any harmful excipients and fillers, and it turns out their products are incredibly clean, conscientious, and truly revolutionary in terms of delivering bioavailable nutrients to the body.

MegaFood is real food. And that means it's digestible. While a lot of people have problems with traditional vitamin pills and multivitamin tablets, MegaFood is easy to digest and easy to assimilate because, again, it's real food not "chemicals and rocks."

Why the FDA and Big Pharma don't want you to know any of this

According to the FDA, calcium is calcium is calcium. In their minds, there's no difference between calcium from rocks and calcium from broccoli. But chemically, in terms of real molecular biology, there is a HUGE difference. Your body wants nutrition from food, not rocks.

How do you know this is true? Because even starving people don't eat rocks. People will die from starvation before they try to eat rocks. That's because rocks are not food. This point should be obvious to anyone. So why do vitamin companies put ground-up rocks in their formulas?

Big Pharma, of course, doesn't want you to know anything about real nutrition. They want you to keep taking their fake, synthetic chemical vitamins so that you get even more sick and require their high-priced prescription drugs to "manage" your disease symptoms. What better way to keep you sick than take over the vitamin industry (which they have largely done) and sell people a bunch of chemicals and rocks that keep everybody sick and malnourished? Pure (evil) genius.

Truth be told, there are all sorts of vested interests in the industry who don't want you to have access to real food-based nutrition. Medical insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and even the entire cancer industry all want to make sure as many people as possible stay sick. They're all future customers, after all, and if the people discover they can prevent disease through intelligent nutrition, the "sick care" industry will lose out on billions of dollars in revenues. (Your health is their loss, in other words.)

Switch to MegaFood starting right now

The number of multivitamin companies using food-based nutrients is ridiculously small. In fact, I can only think of two: MegaFood and Pure Synergy. There may be others I'm not aware of, but in any case it's a frighteningly small number.

If you are currently taking multivitamins that are not from real food-based sources, you need to switch to food-based nutrients immediately. On that topic, I want to be 100% on the record here, saying that your No. 1 best source of nutrition is live, fresh foods and superfoods. No vitamin, no matter how amazing, can replace real, fresh foods and superfoods you grown in your own garden or aquaponic system.

But for a long list of reasons, most people can't get the nutrition they need from the foods they buy. One huge reason for all this is that soils are depleted of minerals like selenium, one of the most important trace minerals to support healthy brain function, immune response and normal cell functions. So even if you're buying fresh food, it's almost certainly depleted of magnesium, zinc, selenium and other trace elements you need in food form.

People today are also in a hurry. They want real nutrition in a convenient, portable, storable format. It's hard to beat MegaFood in this category. MegaFood is shelf stable, packed in glass bottles (not plastic), extremely easy to take, and it can be used to enhance any regular meal you might be eating. For example, if you're eating a salad for lunch and you realize, "Hey, this salad is depleted of nearly all nutrients, grown in nutrient-depleted soils," you can just take a MegaFood multivitamin with your salad, and now you've got a real nutrition for lunch.

MegaFood is 100% no GMO, no soy, no gluten, no dairy, no pesticides and tested free from common allergens.

In addition, the entire MegaFood line is ridiculously "clean" in terms of low levels of toxic metals such as cadmium, lead, mercury and arsenic. As you may know, I've spent tens of thousands of dollars on laboratory testing of superfoods and raw materials over the past few months, and I've seen a large number of test results come back with alarmingly high numbers. I've seen arsenic at over 400ppm. I've seen cadmium at over 8ppm (toxic!). I've seen lead at 16ppm in some foods.

I have personally rejected a huge number of products and raw materials from our store because they had high levels of metals. So as part of my research into MegaFood, we looked into their heavy metals levels and we found them to be incredibly clean. The MegaFood standards are:

Arsenic less than 1 ppm
Cadmium less than 0.2 ppm
Mercury less than 0.5 ppm
Lead less than 1.0 ppm

And the actual test results were much lower than these limits! In the world of foods and superfoods, this is ridiculously clean. So it meets my standards, because I won't endorse anything that contains high levels of metal contaminants.

In addition, MegaFood was tested for pesticide residues, and the results were phenomenal: On all the categories tested -- organochlorine, organophosphorous, organonitrogen and pyrethroids -- the results were lower than Prop 65 requirements, which are the strictest requirements in the world.

MegaFood also passes all the tests on allergenicity for gluten, dairy and soy. It passes all the tests on e.coli, yeast, mold, salmonella and coliform, making it one of the cleanest and most high-quality nutrient sources available anywhere today.

Now you see why I call MegaFood a "breakthrough" in food-based nutrition. This isn't some run-of-the-mill chemical multivitamin. MegaFood supplements are essentially food concentrates that just happen to resemble the physical shape and size of a multivitamin. Click here to get some now from the Natural News store.

Note: We are immediately increasing our MegaFood line and expect more products to arrive next week. MegaFood is a small company and they make these nutrients "artisan-style," in small batches. They are not a mega-sized company that cranks out chemical vitamins on a factory floor. These food-based nutrients take time to manufacture, and we expect to be in short supply for many months, but we'll do our best to keep them coming our way. Subscribe to my email newsletter (below) to be alerted when we expand our MegaFood line and have more products in stock.

Long LiLash Lashes

About a month ago I got my newsletter from Howdoesshe.com & it had a product review on Lilash. Lilash is one of the eyelash serums that is supposed to make your eyelashes grow longer, fuller, and darker. Now, when it comes to all these fancy beauty products that promise to make miracles happen......I'm always a little bit skeptical unless there is some definite proof. I'm not about to spend a fortune on something that doesn't work. However, in Howdoesshe's product review- the blogster herself actually bought the product and used it.
There are pictures of her and her friend before and after treatment was started. The results are amazing and definitely are not altered to try and enhance sale of the product! Plus, there is a code on her review blog for 10% off. I'm sold!!!! I bought some Lilash and started using it on 4/5/13. I took a picture before treatment, 1 week into treatment, and 1 month into treatment. Check it out.......

My lashes before treatment were sparse, thin, & moderate length. 1 week into treatment you can definitely see a difference. And by 1 month of use, these babies are long & dark :) I'm loving this stuff!!

So hop on over to Howdoesshe.com and get your 10% off code and get those lashes long!! Anyone who invests in this product, please let me know how your results are! I'd love to see your product review pictures as well! Post here if you liked your Lilash experience!

Green Thumbs Up!

For the past month, I have been visiting local produce stands and stocking up on fruits and veggies. It feels so great to eat healthy and clean. I started thinking about making my own little garden. I don't have a very big back yard but do have a small area that I thought just might be the spot for one. So I started doing a little research on how difficult it would be to make a small garden.......

These are some adorable little gardens I saw on Pinterest the other day that are called "above ground" gardens. They are ideal for people like me who don't have a lot of space for a large garden but still want to enjoy growing a few things. There are many different ways to go about building one, but most pictures and directions that I saw were just made out of wood or pallets. I didn't want anything huge, just a few vegetables and fruits of my own. Now, the next step was getting my husband to agree to digging up a small portion of our yard to do so....

I only mentioned the garden once and....to my surprise.... he actually went for the idea! Without me even asking, he went to Home Depot and found this fabulous kit where all you have to do is put the sides together!!! It was the perfect size and easy to assemble. The particular kit that he bought was $79.97 and is called the Greenes Fence 48 in. x 96 in. Cedar Raised Garden Bed.

A few hours of digging up some grass and 11 bags of soil later, hard work paid off and we now have a little garden! (I would have helped with all that but of course I was inside doing school work- besides, I think he wants all this to be his idea now, lol.) I went to Manna Grocery and bought some organic Botanical Interests brand seeds. I chose summer quash, zucchini, yellow onions, pepperoncinis, sweet bell peppers, and broccoli. We are also going to get 4 tomato plants this weekend.  In approximately 60 days I should see some results!!

Organic vs. Genetically Modified Food: How to know!

These days, it seems like it is getting more and more difficult to eat healthy. Our busy hectic lives are frantic and we grab what is readily available and fast to eat instead of making healthy choices. Meats, poultry, eggs, dairy, apples, apricots, bell peppers, celery, cherries, peaches, pears, potatoes, red raspberries, spinach, and strawberries contain significant levels of pesticides and/or other artificial substances even after they are washed. It is best to buy such foods in organic form whenever possible. For those of you who do take time to consider what you are putting into your body, this post is for you. This is how to choose the healthiest food options the next time you go to the grocery store. Good to know info!!
1. Fruits & Vegetables: Produce stickers and labels hold a lot more information than simply the name or slogan of a fruit of veggie. By reading the sticker number, you can actually confirm if the piece of produce you hold in your hand is organic, not organic, and/or genetically modified. The label will have a 4 or 5 digit code. If your produce has 4 digits, it means that it was "conventionally grown, but not organic". If it has 5 digits, and begins with a 9, it means that the produce was organically grown. A 5 digit code that begins with an 8 indicates that the produce was genetically modified. Here are a few to get you started.......The kiwi and the apple in the photo to the left has a code "4030". So, this kiwi is not organic, but conventionally grown. It is NOT genetically modified. If an apple sticker said "96584" it would have been grown organically. An apple with "86584" would be genetically altered.

2. Become familiar with the most common genetically modified foods. Among foods, these are the most common modifications:
  • Soybeans- A strain of bacteria known as Agrobacterium is inserted into soybeans to make them more resistant to herbicides.
  • Corn- One variety of corn has a gene from the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis. It is inserted into the corn to produce the Bt toxin, which poisons moths and butterflies so they will not eat the corn.
  • Rapeseed/(used to make Canola Oil)- Genes are added/transferred to make the crops more resistant to herbicides.
  • Sugar beets - Genes are added/transferred to make the crops more resistant to Monsanto's Roundup herbicide.
  • Cotton - Cotton is engineered to produce the Bt toxin. The seeds are pressed into cottonseed oil, which is a common ingredient in vegetable oil and margarine.
  • Dairy - Cows are injected with GE hormone rBGH/rBST. Some are also possibly fed GM (genetically modified)  grains and hay.
  • Sugar. In 2012 the FDA approved GM Beet Sugars to be allowed to be sold on the market under the name.... "SUGAR" So now, when we go to buy "All Natural" Breyer's Ice Cream, we can't even know for sure that we are actually eating regular natural cane sugar. If you see "CANE SUGAR" there's a good chance it's not GMO. This is one of the biggest frustrations with labelling, as sugar is in so many things, and we might be avoiding food that POSSIBLY has GMO sugar, but really does not.
  • Baked goods: Often has one or more of the common GM ingredients in them. Why do we need corn or soy in our bread, snacks or desserts? It's hard to find mixes to use as well. Some brands avoid GMs, find one you like and try to stick with it. Organic is one option, learning how to cook brownies, etc, from scratch with your own organic oils is another.
3. Buy food that are labeled 100% Organic. The US and Canadian governments do not allow manufacturers to label something 100% organic if that food has been genetically modified or been fed genetically modified feed. You may find that organic food is more expensive and different in appearance from conventional products. This is because it is not easily mass produced. Also, just because something says "organic" on it does not mean that it does not contain GMs. In fact, it can still contain up to 30% GMs, so be sure the labels say 100% organic. Trusted Organic Certification institutions include QAI, Oregon Tilth, and CCOF. Look for their mark of approval on the label of the product.USDA Organic standards pale in comparison , do not consider a product 100% organic if it is only USDA Organic Certified.
4. Eggs: Eggs labeled "free-range", "natural", or "cage-free" are not necessarily GE-free. Look for eggs to be 100% organic.

5. Meat: Purchase beef that is 100% grass fed. Most cattle in the U.S. are grass-fed, but spend the last portion of their lives in feedlots where they may be given GM corn, the purpose of which is to increase intramuscular fat and marbling. If you're looking to stay away from GMOs, make sure the cattle were 100% grass-fed or pasture-fed (sometimes referred to as grass-finished or pasture-finished). The same applies to meat from other herbivores such as sheep. There is also the slight possibility that the animals were fed GM alfalfa, although this is less likely if you buy meat locally. With non-ruminants like pigs and poultry that cannot be 100% grass-fed, it's better to look for meat that is 100% organic.

6. Shop locally: By shopping at a local farmer's marker or patronizing a local co-op, you may be able to avoid GM products and possibly save money as well. Since I live in Tuscaloosa- I visit P&P Produce, Tuscaloosa Farmer's Market, and the Tuscaloosa River Market often. The River Market has some yummy recipes on their website as well. The produce is beautiful, fresh, local, and less expensive than grocery store produce.

Happy Shopping!!!

Not So Sweet-The deadly truth about Aspartame!

So many people make the mistake of drinking diet beverages thinking that they are cutting back on calories to help loose weight. But what they don't realize is that, really, they are doing FAR more harm & no good at all. The chemicals makeup & side effects of artificial sweeteners are scary! Some of you guys out there may be sipping on a diet soda right now as you read this.... but I hope by the time you get to the bottom of my blogpost- you throw the rest of that drink away & change your beverage selection for good. I just want you to be aware of what your really doing to your body!!!

First off-What's so bad about a diet soda? Well, ALOT! Instead of using cane sugar as the sweetener, they use an artificial sweetener called Aspartame. All artificial sweeteners are made from chemicals. Aspartame is calorie free, thus cutting out all those extra calories, and if you drink a few sodas a day, those calories can add up fast. Just when someone thinks they are doing good and grab a diet soda.....think again! Aspartame's chemical makeup is comprised of approximately 50% phenylalanine, 40% aspartic acid, and 10% methanol. Each of these chemical have significant side effects. Here is a small rundown:

Phenylalanine: Excessive levels of phenylalanine in the brain cause serotonin levels to decrease, leading to emotional disorders like depression. High blood phenylalanine can be concentrated in parts of the brain and is especially dangerous for infants and fetuses. Even a single use of Aspartame raises the blood phenylalanine levels.Aspartic Acid: Aspartic acid is considered an excito-toxin, which means it over stimulates certain neurons in the body until they die. Much like nitrates and MSG, aspartic acid can cause amino acid imbalances in the body and result in the interruption of normal neurotransmitter metabolism of the brain. Methanol: Methanol is a dangerous neurotoxin and a known carcinogen, which causes retinal damage in the eye, interferes with DNA processes, and can cause birth defects. When ingested, the methanol (wood alcohol) is distributed throughout the body, including the brain, muscle, fat and nervous tissues, and is then metabolized to form formaldehyde (Embalming fluid) which then enters cells and binds to proteins and genetic material (DNA).

Over a billion people consume aspartame in their foods and beverages across the world, believing it to be a safe ingredient, but what they probably don't know is that aspartame currently accounts for over 75% of all side effects complaints received by the FDA's Adverse Reaction Monitoring System (ARMS) for the past 4 years. Aspartame's long list includes:

dizziness, unsteadiness headaches, migraines, behavioral changes, aggression, anxiety, personality changes, hallucinations, epileptic seizures, drowsiness, sleepiness, insomnia, depression, nausea, diarrhea, loss of control of diabetes, aspartame addiction and increased craving for sweets, fluid retention, leg swelling, and bloating, peptic ulcers, increased susceptibility to infection , menstrual changes, marked thinning or loss of hair, muscle spasms, severe hyperactivity and restless legs, weight gain, rashes, itching, fatigue, irritability, vision problems such as blurring, bright flashes, squiggly lines, tunnel vision, decreased night vision, pain in one or both eyes, decreased tears, trouble with contact lenses, bulging eyes hearing loss, heart palpitations, tachycardia (high heart rate), high blood pressure, breathing difficulties, asthma, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus - ringing or buzzing sound, severe intolerance of noise, marked hearing impairment, vertigo, memory loss, confusion, paresthesia or numbness of the limbs,  tremors,  and joint pain. Also, many illnesses can be worsened by ingesting Aspartame. Diseases that can be worsened or mimicked are Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Epstein-Barr, Post-Polio Syndrome, Lyme Disease, Grave’s Disease, Meniere’s Disease, ALS, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), EMS, Hypothyroidism, brain tumors, epilepsy, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Lupus, non-Hodgkins, Lymphoma, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), mental retardation, and especially diabetes. According to Dr. Louis Elsas, Pediatrician Professor of Genetics at Emory University, Phenylalanine can concentrate in the placenta, causing mental retardation of a fetus. Also, formaldehyde in the blood stream of a pregnant woman can cause her immune system to target the fetal tissue as a foreign substance and destroy it, the result being a miscarriage. This can happen before she even knows she is pregnant.

An average person's daily intake of methyl alcohol from natural sources averages less than 10 mg. The Environmental Protection Agency has stated that a safe level of consumption of wood alcohol (methyl alcohol) is 7.8 milligrams per day, but a one liter bottle of an Aspartame-sweetened beverage contains over 50 mg of methanol, this is 8 times the EPA limit!!!! This amount is nearly double as much in some carbonated orange sodas. Heavy users of Aspartame-containing products consume as much as 250 mg of methanol daily, which is over 30 times the EPA limit. Products labeled Diet, Light or Zero most likely contain at least one of the major synthetic sweeteners, and Aspartame is used more widely than the three carcinogenic S's: Sucralose, Sorbitol and Saccharin. Nearly all diet sodas, gum and most candy (not chocolate - yet) are loaded with Aspartame. This poison is in over 9000 items including most Children's Vitamins, Children's Tylenol, Alka Seltzer, Toothpastes.

Aspartame has other names. Please read the ingredient section and be aware of these names as well:
Acesulfame Potassium, Sucralose, NutraSweet, Equal, Sweet One, Spoonful, Benevia, NutraTaste
So, PLEASE, do yourself a HUGE favor and stop eating/drinking all products with this deadly ingredient in them!!! If you are looking for safe alternatives to using sugar, Xylitol and the Brazilian Stevia leaf (Not Truvia) are natural and do not cause side effects or nerve damage.
